SSA NEWS - 2013
Solent Skiers' The Wight Stuff!
Well done to all who took part in this year's charity ride out.
Although it was deemed too rough round the back of the Island to safely
make the circum-navigation while ensuring the safety of such a large group
of riders everyone who attended had a great day on the water. Thank
you all for respecting the safety team's recommendation to take the more
sheltered route back along the Solent from Bembridge and down the Western
Solent to our planned lunch stop at Fort Victoria.
A total of £1,555.00 was raised in aid of Hounds for Heroes so here's to a little pat on the hero dogs' heads and a big pat on the back for all of you who took part and donated on our Virgin Money Giving page www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ssa and off line as well to give us this great total. Well done!
End of Season Activities Away!
Steve Poulton from Activities Away in Lincoln has invited the club up to
his lake for a very wet and fun-filled weekend. On Saturday we will
be canoeing, kayaking and having a general muck about on the lake.
Then in the evening Steve is going to light his infamous open air pizza
oven so we can have pizza just like Mama used to make!
On Sunday we have full use of the lake again and there will be some stand up Superjets available to try. We're trying to keep costs to a minimum. Let us know in the usual way if you want to come.

Solent Skiers Racers are ready for AquaX!
When the new AquaX series gets underway in
Hull next month there will be a new trophy up for grabs.
For the first time there will be a prize for the top team for the season.
We are very proud to announce that SSA members will be competing in this new
team challenge under the name Solent Skiers Racing!
The team of is made up of 2012 P1AquaX 250 Champion - Mat Shipley, 2011 P1AquaX 200 Champion - Duncan Johnstone along with Steve Hockney and John Heath both of whom had podium successes in the 2012 series. Another SSA member, Roy Jones is part of the safety team marshalling the events.
Mat and Duncan will be competing in the 250 Class while Steve and John will be racing in the 200 Class.
Aquacross (AquaX) is an Offshore Endurance Rally Race Series set up in 2011 and is specifically designed to attract amateur riders to enter the sport, this unique sea-based series offers competitors a hugely exciting challenge. The race tracks are simple and wide-open, and patrolled by trained race marshals to ensure safety at all times.
Head of P1 AquaX and former Jet Ski racing champion, Lisa Barsby, says; “There are many recreational jetskiers out there who have wanted to try their hand at competitive riding for some time now, and AquaX provides the perfect arena for them to open up their throttles and enjoy the full performance of their craft in a safe, controlled environment. And because of the ever-changing coastal conditions, the rider’s skill will prevail over horsepower, to create a level playing field for all.”
AquaX is open to all types of watercraft, with Yamaha, Kawasaki and BRP (Seadoo) models expected to race unmodified in three classes - 200, 250 and 300hp.
Visit P1 AquaX website for more news, race dates and how you can take part as well! www.p1aquax.com
SSA Birthday Bash - Skittles!
Solent Skiers in the Community
Aided by the glorious
weather the Family Garden Party in Lee-on-the-Solent was a huge success on
Bank Holiday Monday. Organized by a joint committee of Lee Residents
Association, Gosport & Lee Lions, St Faith's Church and Lee Community
Centre and opened by Deputy Mayor of Gosport, John Beavis.
Solent Skiers were invited to attend and we had a display of two watercraft, kit and information about the club. The organizers were really surprised to see us on such a lovely day but its not just down at Daedalus slipway and riding around the Solent that we promote the club! As well as the things on show we gave out PWC brochures from Nigel at Watercraft World in Fareham to interested party goers and had the new Council leaflets for the Watersport Actvity Zones.
